    Hello,

Looking for some experience mowing bermuda with 5" reels. I currently have 2 6500D's and am looking at getting a newer Toro unit in the near future. Also are the smaller traction units powerful enough to handle the demands under heavy growing conditions?

While I like the 6500's, we will be going with something in the "10" series. Due to the cost of the 5610, I am possibly considering the 5410 with the smaller reels. Just curious to how the smaller diameter reels hold up under heavy growth pressure. I have considered the 5510 as well, but really would like to get away from the large reels if possible.

I mow Midlawn Bermuda @ .500, we spray primo regularly. We mow mid-April to Sept.

Please chime in with any experience regardless of machine, more interested in the diameter of reels and power of the traction unit.

    Thanks,
    Nick

What is your HOC? We use the 5610 on fairways and have (1) as a rough unit. We run the 11 blade reels for fairways and the 8 bladed reels in the rough. If you are mowing rough I do not think the smaller reels could handle it. Do you verti-cut with these units? I do not think the smaller units will verticut the Bermuda very well either? It is crazy how much fairway units cost.

Fairways only @.500, we will bump them up to .750 or so heading into fall. We rarely verticut fwys and I will most likely keep one 6500 around for any extreme circumstance and after aerification.

I do cut my Bermuda tees and par 3 fwys @ .375 with 11 blade dpa's on a 3150 with no problems

I run 11 blades in the 6500's, but I believe on the 5410 toro only offers and 8 blade 5" reel

We run a fleet of 6500's. We recently have been switching over to the 5610's. We have a few 5400's still hanging around with the smaller reels and have found they just can't cut through the Bermuda during times of good growth, rain or 3-day weekends. I loved the 6500, but the 5610 is just as good IMO. Especially with the Cool Top.
