Getting ready to purchase a moisture sensor. What are opinions of the most cost effective, easy to use sensors?

Just ordering moisture and soil temperature sensors along with the solar powered transmitter for our Davis Vantage Pro II. They say that the signal will go close to 1,000 ft to the console. We are adding cable to the sensors to get the unit further away from the green so as not to interfere with play.

We used to use data loggers that had thermocouples in edges of greens with the units in a valve box but even with careful wrapping they succumbed to the moisture....

We use the TDR 300 on a daily basis, it is very simple to use and well worth the investment.

Here is a video that describes the difference between the in- ground sensors and the TDR300. I think everyone should consider a TDR300 to aid in irrigation soil moisture management.

Thanks Larry for the video, very interesting there at the end about the greens depth construction.
