I remember reading in the old forums about some guys melting down urea and spraying it out. Curious to know how many people are out there using this method and if so, what are some of the different methods you are using to melt down? I have tried to look back through the old forums but have had no luck in finding the old topic. Any thoughts and suggestions are much appreciated.

We got ourselves a small submersible pump, when we are ready to spray we throw a bag of urea in a barrel and drop in the pump and let it run for a few minutes and the urea is dissolved. To get it from the barrel to the sprayer we couple up a garden hose to the pump that is long enough to reach the sprayer and we are ready to rock!!

I've been melting down Ammonium sulfate in my tank by just put some in the basket and running water over it. Seems to be working ok for us.

If you can afford it, get a cone bottom shaped mixing tank. Mine is 175 gal. Hooks up to a 1 1/2" or 2" water pump and you circulate. I use this for the ag fertility, but also works well for mixing fungicides that are dry flowables or solubles, or whatever.

It wasn't cheap, about $1500 6 years ago, but well worth it and will last virtually forever.

Same as Mel. Just put some in the spray tank basket and the fill water will dissolve it just fine. Bag of urea costs about $15 out here- give it a shot.

Do you guys water in the urea after applying. Interested in applying some to bent/poa fairways at about .15#-.20#N. Have some old 46-0-0 in stock.

Same as Mel here too. We spray at 0.10#/M with whatever else we're spraying and leave it up.

We melt it in the basket. We can get about 4 bags in one 165 gallon tank. We, of course, water that in. But, as a foliar spray, we don't water in at rates up to .15#/m.

We made a small mix tank with a sump pump and a 55 gallon barrel.(Cost about $200 4 years ago) I usually fill it about half full and add 3 or 4 bags of urea and 10oz of Hydrexx for each bag. The best part of the mix tank is I can have my next batch mixing while I am out spraying and reload quickly.

Ken who do you your Hydrexx from? I've tried to get some but nobody I talk to has it.

I don't water it in until night at those rates. We usually mix it with potassium nitrate to get an 1/8 of a pound in roughly a 2-0-1 ratio.

If you have a basket on your sprayer like someone else said, pour in some and it will melt relatively easy no need for pumps and barrels and all that extra stuff. Trust me, I have sprayed more urea than anyone! Rarely bought anything else for large areas like fairways at another course. If you have access to warm or hot water that works even better. I sprayed urea at .10 lbs per 1,000 every couple weeks for years, pallets upon pallets of this stuff. It's probably my fault for the urea price increase. Also, I never watered it in. In my opinion you get a better response from a foliar application anyway, and I have sprayed it on bent/poa fairways at .20 mowed at .500.

Any problems mixing a tank only to have it sit overnight?

Andy may have sprayed more urea but venture I have been spraying it longer. It will melt easily in the spray tank basket but if you want an instant solution melting 10 lbs. at a time in a bucket in hot water will do the trick as well. We are spraying it on bermuda and never water it in till the normal night watering cycle.

I have sprayed injected and put urea out any way possible, like the others mix in sprayer in basket and water in to dissolve, never had an issue getting it into solution. have sprayed up to .5 lb urea on .5" poa rye fairways in nearly any weather with out worries of burn even not watering in, although when above 90 I don't use just because I don't want to find that limit. Also use umaxx fertilizer which dissolves just as easily as urea. Find umaxx is worth the extra cost since i don't water in and i believe lose allot less to volatilization etc.

In injection system I have a 300 gal tank, I can dissolve about 800 lb of urea in that tank without it settling to bottom and I do not have any agitation in that tank other than a bunker rake handle to mix.
