Has anybody heard of motor failing and losing hydraulic fluids on a John Deere 8800?

The transmission is the main braking factor and an operator went flying down the mountainside with very serious injuries.

Please feel free to reply in private or on here.

Never heard of that happening but on that machine there is a parking brake that can be used to stop the machine that is independent of the hydrostatic transmission.

Scott, I am Michael Rogers, a water and soil chemistry specialist and Director of Golf Operations for a Spanish golf club. The same Michael Rogers that sent you information about the granulometry of your rebuild specs.

My operator was in a coma for weeks and is undergoing physical and mental rehabilitation. The parking brake has very little effect on severe slopes. The motor that ruptured was non serviced and allowed the hydraulic fluid to escape, the machine has perfect service record, was three years old and this accident happened at the very worst part of the golf course.

There have been rumblings of similar occurrences, a google hit that said John Deere 8800 ... severe or fatal accident shut down my personal computer, shut down our admin computer and is as of now unfindable. I was hoping to hear from one of the GCSAA members as to similar event ( not injury but design defect that JD were aware of ) .

Thanks Stephen for your reply, hope to hear more news.

That machine comes with a roll bar. Was the operator wearing the seat belt? It also has a manual brake. I have never tried to stop the machine with that brake, but I know it will keep it from moving. I asked if you were an attorney because I have received many calls from attorneys offering me money to be an expert witness. I tell them I am a manager, not an expert and when I need an expert I hire one.

We have an expert witness report. The operator was wearing a seat belt but took it off to try and jump out as the machine was going about 25 mph down a slope that has three times the vertical drop than the highest spot in Florida. It smashed into a rock wall, threw him out, the roll bar beat him up bad on way out, broke pelvis, collar bones you name it.

Any feedback appreciated as to similar JD malfunctions. I will keep digging.

    Thanks Michael
