A few years back one of the local USGA guys had mentioned he was seeing clubs having luck by "inter-sprigging" Celebration into 419 and common as a way of converting to a mono-stand of celebration. Has anyone done this or heard of anyone doing this with any success? We have 419 but have a vast amount of common in the fairways and I was considering trying this.
    Thanks
    Curtis

    Curtis,

Many years ago when I was growing up in Atlanta, the club I worked at inter-sprigged 419 into common with the intent of the 419 taking the common over. The process worked, but took five or more years and never became fully 100%. But, it did work with the only disruption being the cart path only period shortly after the sprigs went down. In your case, I would think the aggressiveness of the Celebration would decrease the time it take to fully take over.

Another thought is to row plant. I had posed that question to one of the guys at Pike Creek several years ago, as it was an idea one of my members had. Although he hadn't done it in many years, he said it can be done.

We too are looking at converting our Tif-Sport fairways to Celebration due to the common contamination. I'd be interested to hear what you find out, or if you go through with it, what results you've achieved.

We are doing it this summer, 35 acres of fairways. Several courses in our area have done it with TREMENDOUS success.

Andy, I will for sure...I think we are going to do a "test" fairway on a par 3 this summer...will keep you posted!

Tony, what are the steps you will be following for your site? Heavy primo, no fertilizer leading up to the sprigging ( to weaken base turf?) any input would be great!

    Thanks!

    Curtis,
We will be making 3 applications of Roundup/Fusilade beginning on April 30th. We will fertilize thee next week. On May 21st we will make anotheer application, followed by a granular application a week later. On June 11the we will make our final spray. 4-6 days later, will will HEAVY (1" or deeper) verticut thee fairways and aerify withe 3/4" tines. We will cleanup and roll thee fairways. They we will sprig withe 800 bushels/acre, cut in in 2 directions. We will open back up on September 30th.

    Reviving this thread

I was considering inter-sprigging two shaded 419 tees with celebration.

I am thinking that we might primo what 419 comes back in spring. Then scalp, aerate, sprig, and topdresstopdress. Has anyone had success with this? What was the turn around time on the playing surface. Without spraying roundup, how long until the celebration takes over?
