I've been asked to write some cart guidelines for patrons that use our handicap flags during their round. I'm curious what kinds of rules you have at your course!

    Rodney,

I sat through this free GCSAA on-line seminar last week. You might want to do the same prior to responsing to your employer.

Thanks to those of you who were able to join us yesterday for the live webcast ADA Accessibility Standards & Your Golf Course with Peggy H. Greenwell. Below is the access information you need to listen to the recording. If you were unable to join us live, please complete and return the evaluation to me (by mail, fax or scan & email) and I will post the earned education points to your record.

Our thanks again to Ms. Greenwell for her time and energy in teaching this webcast and for offering to answer questions you may have. Please note: questions of policy are not part of Peggy's area of responsibility. GCSAA is planning to host another webcast to address issues of that nature – watch for an announcement about that yet this fall.

Our next webcast – Pests of Fine Poa Turfgrass on Thurs., Oct. 13. Hope to see you online then. Lisa

    Rodney,
Our pro came to me with the same question not long ago. The old rules were ludicrous! 2 different colored flags depending on your disability, etc. The new rules I implemented are these:

When the course is open for cart traffic, those using handicapped flags may drive their cart the entirety of the hole to within 15 feet of tees and greens.
When the course is cart path only, or certain holes declared too wet, those with flags may use 90 degree rule the length of the hole but must return to the path the remainder of the hole after reaching the no-cart signs.
Those using flags still must stay out of roped-off areas at all times.
I also told our pro that when we are simply too wet to allow any traffic whatsoever handicap flags will not be issued.
This is more than fair and we have had no problems.
    Good luck

Thanks so much, Mark. Those are very similar to the ones that I have proposed! :D
