Golf Clubs? Cancel The title field is required!

   Alright I purchased my last set of clubs 17 years ago when I was a lot younger and stronger and played a lot more golf. So now that my back is allowing me to play some I find that the stiff shafts in my titlest clubs may not be right for me anymore. What brand clubs and type shafts would you recommend? I am 49 years old in really good shape for my age but two back surgeries has slowed my swing down some. Also is there any specials given to Superintendents by the club companies?
   
   A week and a half ago I was volunteered to play in our Member Guest Tournament because one of our members needed a partner ( I had not played since February). Well we took second place overall and won our flight so I now have $200 credit on the books to spend. Any ideas?

   Take the time and go fet fit. I like getting fit at the big stores because they have more selection. It makes a huge difference. As far as the club companies. Talk to your pro or whoever orders the clubs, I've gotten deals before.

   I bought my first set of irons last year since 1976. I went to our Nike Demo Day and got fitted properly, (3 degrees flat and 1/2" shorter). This way I was able to try all the different models, thought I would get the split cavity on the upper and blades on the shorter irons, got all blades since I was hitting the blade demo 4 - iron better then the split cavity. One of our other courses had a multi-vendor demo day at the beginning of this past month, I wanted to go but other plans were made for me.
   
   Definitely ask your pro (if you have one) or check with the salesmen who call on you, (if I remember earlier post aren't you acting GM or something?) They might be able to do a PUD for you. Many years ago when I was standing in the shop with our pro and the Wilson guy stopped in, he told me if I needed anything to let him know. Worse case scenario is typically cost plus 10% (that's what our city will charge employees).

   If you have a good relationship with your Pro, maybe he will use his personal use discount and place an order for you. I just had mine order a set of US Kids Golf for my 8 yr old. Retail for $189, got them for $89.

   No I am not acting GM nor do I want to be at this point in my life, but I am the only manager that has been here longer then 6 months so everyone seems to come to me for the advice which I do not mind in the least.
   
   We have a head of golf operations person in the golf shop who just made 21 last week and does not know all the reps yet but he too comes to me for advice and has offered to help me get the PUD. He has been the best Pro (who is not a pro yest) we have had in 17 years and all of our members really like him a lot.
   
   I will check with him to see where will be the best place to get the fitting at.

   The only advice I would give you, is ignore replacing your low irons. Go with Rescue clubs. I won my first rescue club on a closest to the pin contest when I put a 3 iron 2 inches from an ace. I pulled out my 4 wood and never looked back. I have recently pulled out my 3 and 4 irons. The rescues are so easy to hit. I am covered from 165 to 200 because they also provide a little more distance along with the accuracy and consistency.

   If you know what you want, don't forget ebay. About a year ago somebody stole my ancient set of powerbilt irons from my trunk. I didn't want new clubs, just replacements of what I liked and was accustomed to. I thought replacing a 20 year old plus set in kind would be hard, but 15 minutes into ebay I found a clean set of Be copper headed powerbilt irons for less than a $100 bucks. Graphite shafts too. they work great- I still stink but having fun.

   Gus, it was hard to do. I was really stubborn about it. I hit a couple of the Taylor Made and found them so much more comfortable. At the same time, I was going through a challenging period with consistency in long irons. I finally swallowed my ego and gave in. I haven't regretted it. I am still learning the correct distance of both of these clubs but it almost feels automatic now with anything from 165 to 200.

    Excuse my ignorance but what is rescue irons? It sounds like something you pull out of a barrel of clubs in the golf shop that will be headed for the dumpster.

    Mizuno JPX 800 graphite shafts. So sweet. They can be purchased separately so you drop the low numbers out and fill with a couple of hybrids. Also add a Gap wedge if wanted. I agree with the fitting as swing speed and lie are very important.
