I am in the market for a fertilizer spreader for my tractor and was curious what you guys are using to fertilize fairways/rough. I have mostly used a Lely in the past, but wanted to know if anyone has a better option for the money. Looking to spend around $500-$700. Thanks

I don't know what they cost these days, but I have a small Vicon that I like a lot.

    Regards,

One of our courses is picking up this Cosmo T-500. I believe they said it is 1,000 lb. capacity.

I was hoping we would replace our Lely, for probably just over $4,000, but that isn't in the plans. To repair it, it would have cost us close to $6,000 parts wise.

If you are looking at a "cheaper" 3 pt spreader, I'd recommend looking at one with an agitator that has the little wheel that spins around the hopper. The strait shaft with fins doesn't do a very good job, and some products tend to cake around the edges. We bought on while our lely was out of commission, and it has a purpose, but I think the lely is more uniform.

Our fertilizer suppliers have Adams spreaders they let us use. It has a 4000 lb. capacity, ground driven. It works well for us. I would buy one if our suppliers did not have them. Ground driven Lely's have worked well for us in the past, but ours did not have a very large hopper and had to be loaded frequently.

I don't think you would get a Lely for $500-700. Last one I bought was a bit more than that. However, a Lely is the only way I would go.

For $500-700, this is what you'll get:

Not that there is anything wrong with this, it will get the job done. But if it ever breaks, it's scrap. Where would you get parts? Something to consider...

I did see the unit before it went down to the other course, it was ok, wondered a little if my short arms could reach the shut off/on lever, I guess it would have to be on the tractor to see. It also looks just like the one Andy linked, I hope it throws farther then 46", I'm hoping that was a typo and meant to be 46'?

I agree with you Andy, I really don't want to go this direction, would prefer a Lely, as they really aren't that much considering the life span of it if taken care of properly, and the cost of the products we sometimes put down, the cost per acre of a poor application, extra passes, life span, etc, I think it would pay for itself in the long run, but I guess we have to direct what little funds we have to more important pieces of equipment.
