    Hey All:
I really appreciate all the help I have received with my various posts on here. There is a wealth of knowledge being shared all the time and for that I am greatly appreciative.
I want to start using Ammonium sulfate and Ferrous sulfate regularly on greens tees and possibly fairways but am skiddish to make mistakes. Our coverage on our fairways is less than desirable, so that may be an issue with watering the products in??? I have heard of horror stories ( and have " painted it black" on a putting green myself) about over application or mistakes during application. I was wondering, what you others are using as far as delivery rate, droplet size, and what seems to get you the best results? I was planning on ferrous this fall to promote darker greens going into winter without the flush growth after aerification. I want to start using ammonium sulfate because we have a history of take all patch and other patch diseases at the course and I read that using amm sulf can lessen the outbreaks of these diseases. any feedback would be much appreciated!!!!!

I use quite a bit of both products on greens, tees and fairways. On fairways I go 7 oz/m of ferrous in 1 gallon of water along with .10 lbs/N with ammonium. This is on poa bent and it will scare you for two days because it does go black and streaky. I might recommend starting at 4 oz of ferrous and see if you are comfortable. I do this weekly. Greens and tees get 10.67 oz of ferrous and .10 lbs of N in 2 gallons of water/m weekly.
I have been doing this now for 4 years without any ill effects, with the exception of localized dry spots, which the mix will smoke in a bad way.
You become addicted to the colour and things look sick without it.

Application Rate .65 gal/1000. I apply .025 lbs of Iron/1000 using Ferrous Sulfate. And .05lbs N/1000 from Ammonium Sulfate. I'll also add a slow release Urea at around .10 lbs N/1000. And occasionally Potassium Nitrate.

I can't imagine you would see any colour response at those rates

moisture levels in the turf you are spraying must be a huge factor??? I smoked a test plot and it still looks rough out on the driving range fairway that doesn't receive regular irrigation. what would you all say adequate moisture is??? obviously dependent upon a multitude of different things!!! what texture of droplets are you using? am I right in saying that the longer the products are held on the leaves and not washed off, the higher for burn potential??? thats how you get the "spotty" look from the fe right?

    Hey Larry,

Do you water this stuff in or just leave it on the plant? I've done the ferrous sulphate on fairways at 6 oz and had terrible streaking. The color is great once the streaking is gone but it looks pretty sick prior to. I didn't water it in as I had primo and a fungicide with it. Would you recommend going alone with the FE or does watering it in even make a difference for the black streaking?

    Thanks

Watering it in will eliminate the streaking but I think it reduces the fungicidal activity of the iron. It looks a little ugly for the first couple of days but surprisingly my membership has gotten used to it. If you up the amount of carrier, it will also reduce the tracking
