Has anyone ever used Thiophanate for earthworm castings? I am in the Islands so it takes awhile to get chemicals so looking for a quick fix until I can get an insecticide.
    Thanks,

Was talking to someone who watered the area, drove in a grounding rod, hooked up a portable welding unit to the rod and turned it on...no more problems with worms for awhile.

    Thanks,

It works well. I think it's 2 - 4 ounces per thousand depending on the AI percentage but isn't labeled for such

Thiophanate methyl has long been a part of my fall fungicide program for preventative control of snow mold. By strange coincidence I have very few earthworm castings on my greens after it has been applied. I haven't sprayed an insecticide on my greens in the 11 years I have been at my present job.

I just sprayed some of our fairways a week ago with T.Methyl at 1.25oz/1000 and got no control. It rained .75" about 12 hours after the application. I was hoping that spraying at a lower rate more frequently would be a way to stretch my dollars but it looks like I'll have to try going at a higher rate and see if I get any control.

Ditto on the Earlybird it works and little effect fertility wise. Good organic product to add to sand or soil we used it this fall on some greens and the Earthworms stayed down.

Not much luck with early bird..........Sprayed merit in fwys as prevent.....seems to be working........trouble areas around greens I drench with sevin/merit mix.......that makes em surface......

The ocean organics works really good, used it when I was in New York. Expensive from what I remember the rate we used was a wide open spreader setting. Water it in that night or do it right before rain. You won't have any issues for awhile

    Jimmy,

I can tell you right now Thiophanate-methyl wont touch earth worms down here. Its a part of my fungicide rotation and doesn't do anything to them @ 5oz/1000.

I've played around with Early Bird 3-0-1, different rates, different watering techniques. The high rate (I believe 6lbs/M) followed by a deep irrigation cycle works best. Soil type is an important factor in my experience. The product appears to work better on sandier/loamier soils. I've seen 3-4 weeks of control.
    All the best

Just sprayed my fairways again with T-Methyl, but this time at a 2.5oz/1000 rate and got much better control.
