   Recently at a seminar and one of the speakers presented some new applications for use on the course. The one that interested my was EZ Pin an app that tracks cupsets, sends locations to apps for golfers along with providing info to proshop for pin sheets if required. Able to highlight an event and/or add advertising on the app. Maybe a way for club to profit by selling advertising or promotion of events.
   
   EZ Pin was just one of three mentioned. Does anyone use any of these apps and how do golfers like them. Thanks ...ed

   I do not use it but this gives me another idea for a use for my drone. I could take hi def pictures of my greens to make pin sheets out of.

   I think anything like that can be very helpful as long as the return on investment is good. We need to start thinking outside the box in order to bring golfers to the course. And w/ everything right on the phone, easy access to things like that while playing will be beneficial. Something to look into.

   We have been using the EZ pin system for the past year and we have received good feedback from our members. I would say it's about 50/50 for the players who use the app to those that like to grab a copy of the pin sheet from the golf shop. The initial set up took us some time because our greens are large and very undulated but once it is done it is very easy to manage. It's important to keep your two reference points well marked so that anyone who cut cups can find them. Our main cup cutter did a great job all season keeping these dots painted so we could always find them. This year we are looking to put something more permanent in the ground so we don't always have to paint them. My only complaint would be sometimes when you generate a new pin sheet it might only move the pin a couple of paces away from the previous days position, so then I have to go through and double check and move manually if needed. We do also use the special event portion which is great because it will keep it the program from placing any pins near those locations leading up to the event, like our member guest. I'm sure there is more that it can do but I haven't needed to figure that out yet!

   I played a course a few weeks ago that used something like EZ Pin. I played with the assistant and he mentioned that you can set the parameters based on green speeds for the day. This was good on about 16/18 holes. Two of them were in some very tricky locations. I think the cup cutter still needs to use some judgement when setting the pin as the computer isn't always right.
   
   That got us talking about developing something that has a GPS locater on the cup cutter that marks the location AFTER the cup is cut and automatically sends the info to the pro shop or on-cart screen or app. This way the guy changing cups can use his judgement to determine location based on turf health, stresses, slopes and speed, and still relay the info back to the pro shop.
