I'm looking for an EC meter. Prices seem to vary from $100 all the way up to $1000. Is there much difference between the cheaper and more expensive meters? Other than Spectrum Technologies, who else makes EC meters and would you recommend them?

I'm in the market myself. I ran into and talked to the guys from Spectrum this past Monday at the Irrigation Association show. Their EC Meter with the 24" probe is what they recommended. The longer probe will save your back and has a replaceable tip, whereas the shorter one does not. The part # is 2265FSTP and it runs $445.

As soon as I can, I'm going to order one. We have several of the TDR 300 moisture meters from Spectrum, and they have been high quality pieces of equipment. I expect the same from them with the EC meter.

I can vouch for some of Spectrum's stuff. I own several of their lower priced meters for my personal use and they have been very good. At the course I have some light meters and a pH meter that have also been good. I plan on buying the TDR 300 this coming spring as I was impressed when I had a demo unit for a day.
