Wanted to get some feedback on mats that you guys may be using. We are looking to minimize traffic on our small driving range tee during winter months so that the tee is in better condition when our spring play comes in. Any recommendations regarding fading of color, durability, installation techniques, etc. Also if you can put a tee in them. Thanks in advance for your replies.

    Morgan,

We installed Real Feel Golfmats a little over a year ago to provide a surface to hit off of once everything goes dormant during winter. They have performed well, and are the best that I have seen or hit off of. Installation was as simple as removing turf with sod cutter, smoothing and leveling subsurface, and laying the mats down. We have sand based tees, so there was no need for rock, etc. underneath. We have had zero issues since installation. Edge biweekly and you are all set. You can place a tee in them and are very forgiving with iron shots. Feel free to contact me if you need more details.

We installed an 11 station continuous tee from Fiberbuilt about 4 years ago. We have had to do ZERO maintenance to them since being installed. Poured concrete and assembled the mats. Took us about two hours to put together. What I liked about this system, and the reason we went with it, is that it is totally modular. If a section gets damaged or worn out, you only replace that section. But after four years we have had to do nothing to any of it and it is still holding up strong. It's a bit more pricey than the competitors mats, but I am confident that this system will hold up for 15-20 years.

We used to have some cheaper individual 48" x 48" mats. They didn't hold up very well and after five years they needed to be replaced. Actually really after three years but we didn't have the money to do it. Since we've installed the Fiberbuilt system, out revenue has increased and the members really like it much, much more.

We had a Turf Hound system installed last year. It's a modular system of continuous stations. It gives several different heights of "turf" to hit off, and feels unbelievable under your feet. It also allows you to use regular tees. Not sure how it will hold up as it is only a year old at this point. It's at the high end cost wise, but definitely worth it as long as it hold up well. http://turfhound.com/

Morgan, Call Matt Ciani with Triangle Greens and Grass (919) 600-8308. He installed a tee line here at Lonnie Poole last spring that we are very pleased with. We looked at several different products before choosing his. He is very reasonably priced.
