For those of you who have experience with installing drip line irrigation on bunker faces, can you please comment on installation recommendations/"tips and tricks".

I'm particularly interested in the difference between those who installed prior to grassing and those who added after establishment.

We are well into a full scale renovation and have several complexes prepared but, with rainy/typhoon season having just arrived, we are contemplating getting our most severe bunker faces sodded out, and then coming back and installing the drip line irrigation following establishment, vs. taking the time to install as we go and experiencing more washed out areas as a result of the delay.

Our contractor is in favour of this option, however, since I have no previous experience with installing drip line, I'd like to make sure we proceeding in the best interest of the club over the long term. Thank you for your assistance.

I would think pop-up sprays would be better than drip. Concern with drip is as the bunker edge creeps through the years, that an edger will cut into the drip tubing if installed too close to the edge.

I installed drip at a course just before I left, so was not able to see results. After talking with the asst he was not impressed as he put it. The big concern is that sand builds up then your tubes continually get deeper, so when you do decide to strip back and remove sand buildup it is in the way. We had pop up (misters) on others and they worked well for us.

When we installed the drip we had stripped the face already to remove a 7" sand buildup.

I have only utilized the sub surface drip in the rocky mountain region. It worked great! 6-8 " spacings with a little extra in the noses and features. Only negative would be in the valve got stuck on and the profile sluffed from being saturated.
