Just curious to know the differences between growing these two grasses. might be looking into moving further up north and I am trying to get a better idea as to what to expect if I was to change turf types. I have grown Tif Eagle for the last 20 years and I have a lot of experience in doing this on a very low budget.

    Thanks

Depending where you end up, the big difference is hours you'll be at work in the summer.

    James,

Give me a call (423-413-7033) as that would be an easier way for me than typing it out. I grew Champion greens my last 3 years and bentgrass the other 40 years. Managing ultradwarf greens was good but somewhat different from what I thought it would be even though I had studied it a lot and talked to others before changing.

I've done both. They are very similar except that Bermuda wants to live and bentgrass is suicidal

    Regards

If you think bentgrass is suicidal try growing poa. And if you're growing bentgrass in the northeast you're probably actually growing a mixed stand of bent and poa. But it's not so bad in reality. You just have to have the right combination of water, nutrients, soil, cultural practices, topdressing, temperature, sunlight, air movement, plant protectants, wetting agents and timing and all will be right in the world...

Yeah, those are what we call "weeds" here. Nothing better than a properly cared for Poa green but Bermuda lets you get some sleep at night.
