I'm looking at a couple of models specifically the Toro SR70 and 70S, and the Weidenmann XF6...Has anyone used these on putting surfaces? Good or bad results?

With my situation, I may be able only to purchase one machine to tees, greens and freeways.

    Thanks in advance.

    Douglas,

We run the SR54 on greens. Slightly smaller than the SR70 you are looking at. Love it. Very little issues. Only think I don't like about it is the spacing on the heads only let's me get on a 2" x 2" pattern. Any closer i have to use another aerifier. Not bad when pulling a 1/2" core, but when we want to solid tine to 8", I'd rather go a bit closer.

Completely echo Andy's post. Have two SR54's and have the same pros, same cons.

I haven't put anything bigger than a 54 on greens, and we do tees a couple times a year with our 54s as well. Fairways we pull around our barrel aerifiers and contract out the deep tining with big machines. Don't know if I'm concerned about the size of the aerifier more than the size of the tractor it takes to run those bigger aerifiers across greens.

    Any thoughts?

We have been running the SR70S on our greens and tees the past 2 years with great results. With the S model you have the 2 rollers that virtually makes the machine "dummy proof", drop it and let the spring loaded top link follow the contours. We can punch a 10" tine everywhere through the greens, very little issues other than setting it up from the crate to get a good hole, simply move the bolt for tine angle. We have the roller on the back of the machine but imo doesnt work that great! We have pulled 1/2" cores with great success as well, if we want more holes we run our 648 over them. The model we have is ran by a 40HP tractor, weight and power has no issues running this machine. If you youtube the Sr model, our local sales rep. has video of me running the machine across our nursery. Highly recommend the machine!
