    Hi all,
Deep drilling greens and was wondering what others who have done this have done with the holes. 5/8 drill on 10 inch centers going down 12 or so inches. Im mainly wondering if its better to fill the holes or leave them open and what youve done to remove the spoils drug up during the process.

    Thanks for your input
    Ben

use larger tine with smooth drill dit and fill with straight sand. If you don't fill them the drainage pathways will close up pretty quick. The smooth bit is allot cleaner and doesn't create as much of a volcano effect at surface.

We had a company come out about 10 years ago with Floyd MCKay machines and used 5/8" and 12" deep. We only had 5 greens done that stayed wet and drained poorly. We bought bags of dried sand from our sand provider and the machines filled the holes right after they were drilled. As far as cleanup, our owner brought in some temp help to use scoop shovels to cleanup behind machine, very labor intensive. When they were done, we used Little Wonder blower and mad for the chute was aimed outward so there was no air blown downward to prevent blowing sand out of holes. This did a great job cleaning up the green. This really helped these greens and still see the benefits today as we have push-up greens and can still see the channels ocassionally when changing cups.
