Ok I have a double question for the other Supers on here. First, what do you do to combat the reduction of ball speed the day after a deep water. I have been rolling 11+, deep watered Monday night and members bitching about how much slower the greens were yesterday. And the second part; How many of you post greens speeds daily? does it work for you or does it bite you in the butt like I think it would?

Hey Jason, thank God I don't post green speeds-42 yr. old Pencross, anyway, have you tried double cutting or mowing and then rolling? If your closed on Mon. then try to deep water Sun. night. Can't always work out that way but might be worth a try. I have found that I can skip mowing one day and just double roll and keep the speed up.
Education is a big part of what we have to do during the Summer. I tell my members that they are their greens in the Spring, Fall and Winter, but mine in the Summer. Just tell the members the facts of life, better slower green greens than fast dirt. Hope all goes well, give me a call sometime.
    Mark.

    Jason,

Were the greens slower or was it the members perception? Tracking speeds can help you with those discussions. Yesterday they may have been 11'. But after last nights irrigation, they only dropped 3", rather than the accused 1'.

How often do you perform a deep irrigation cycle? Do you notice an increase in grass growth the next day?

Can you schedule a deep watering on the night prior to an off day or non pressured day? My deep cycle will occur prior to Ladies Day or Junior Day. At my course, these groups very rarely identify slightly slower or softer putting surfaces.

I do track speeds. I'll share the information if asked but I do not post. I fear posting could be held against me. If the ave is 11.5' @ 9 am, but slows a little throughout the day due to growth, how will the 5 pm play react.
