Dealing with elk Cancel The title field is required!

   We have a herd of 50-60 elk that over-winter here on our course in Central Oregon. For any of you guys who have to deal with these animals, what are you doing about them? How are you going about cleaning up their mess after they leave for the warm season? Are you trying to keep them out, or have you given up? Etc.,etc. Our herd showed up all of a sudden five winters ago and they have been here every winter since. Their presence here has had a major impact on our maintenance practices, specifically the amount of labor we have to put into repairing the damage they do. Feeling pretty helpless here.

   Here is a link to a golf course blog in Colorado. I know that they deal with the same problems on a yearly basis. If you search around you will see the methods they use and it might give you some ideas.

   I did my internship at The Rim Golf Club in Payson Arizona and we had an elk fence that bordered the property. It is large but not very unsightly and it worked wonders. The neighboring course didn't have one and they sent out a crew daily to clean up elk poo and they were always plugging greens from hoofprints and sodding large areas where the elk peed. The fence rarely needed maintained and as long as your course doesn't wind through a development it would be worth checking out.

   Yea thinking the same thing........a .270 Styer-Mannlicher with a 3x9 Zeiss scope might work.......not sure if you can legally get tags (permits) for a herd though.
