Looking for a little help. Had some boys go for a joy ride in a stolen car, only damage is from some cookies, they spun on a fairway. Hard to tell the damage because of snow cover, but the police department wants a money number from me for the purpose of charges. If anybody has any advice I really appreciate it.

My suggestion would be to estimate the cost of how much turf would be needed to repair the area, plus the amount of hours needed to do the job and then submit that to the Police as an estimate. Imagine the snow is not there and how much turf would have been ruined with them doing cookies around the area, Square the area off and work it like the turf needs to be replaced completely. Cost of turf, plus cost of labor would be a good place to start. Would also be an expensive lesson for the hooligans!

Find out what the minimum price is for a felony, and go with that. I know down here they will only charge them with a misdemeanor if it is only a few hundred dollars.

I would think grand theft is a felony, yes?

The theft of the vehicle, yes. But the vandalism charge could only be a misdemeanor if it's less than a certain amount.

Thanks guys, the police wanted a high enough figure to add to the charges. He didn't just steal one car but three, ran the first out of gas, wrecked the second, cops picked him up passed out the next morning (christmas day). He has a bunch of charges ranging from DWII to grand theft. I'm sure I will never see a dime out of him.

Sorry to hear that it happened to you. Had similar incidents happen at the course I have worked at before with people doing doughnuts in a fairway during the night time with one type of vehicle or another. At least it wasn't on the putting surface.

You never know about payments from these types of incidents. This Fall, we had a truck crash into our fence. Luckily the fence held the truck as it was headed right at a Green, with a foursome of ladies putting on it. The woman driving the truck had t-boned a vehicle down the road, flipping that vehicle, and she took off. On her escape, she sideswiped a couple of vehicles, ultimately ending her run in our fence. She had no insurance and of all the damage she caused, ours was certainly the LEAST of what she had done. HOWEVER, our Secretary of State Dept came through with a check to reimburse us for the fence repairs. Granted, that amount in no where near the amount you will be looking at, but when it comes to payments, you never know.
