   Does anyone out there use a triplex or larger mower for cutting square tees?
   
   WE just completed aerifying our tees and I used an old Jacobsen LF3400 to bust up the cores. since we are in need of replacing the reels I figured what the heck. It actually did a great job on cutting the tees with the exception that it could not cut the rounded corners (tees just too small). This got me to wondering if anyone has tried to cut them with this type of machine. My tee mower has gotten old and the hydraulics just do not work as well anymore. I would of tried it but I have an LGA junior Ryder Cup Tournament next weekend and just did not want to mess anything up before hosting it.
   I think that with the larger mower I could possibly knock out 2-3 hours cutting time from my triplex.

   HI James
   Last year we turned our 24 oval tee decks into rectangle tee decks with 90 degree corners. Its not as hard as you might think, it takes a little bit for an experienced operator to get used to, as there are a few things you will do differently. We attack each corner in at least two directions due to the gap front reels, and to make sure the corners are as straight as the operator can get them. For this reason, it does add a certain amount of time to the overall task, but, the results are definitely worth it.

   We use a triplex to square the teeing ground. It increases the labor time by about 1/4 - 1/3 depending on the operator. Not difficult but does add time to the process.

   Thanks, thats the info I was looking for. I knew if anyone else had done it it would most likely work for us. I could easily spend 1-2 days geting them squared off my self then let my operators keep it from there. I do have a few odd shaped tes I will have to figure out but I think it may be worth it in the long run.
   
   One of the reasons I was thinking of this was we used our LF3400 to cut up the plugs like I mentioned and if I could get most of the tees done with this mower it would save me a load of dollars on acquiring a tee mower in the near future. The bigger mower has a much better cut. I think I will experiment with my Driving Range tee first off!

   We mow the majority of the tee surface with a tri-plex when we're running short on labor, and send one guy out with a walk-mower to get the clean-up passes.
   
   It takes 6-7 total labor hours to do 9 holes. We have 5 sets of tees, and every hole has at least 4 tee boxes. A few have 6. This process has the mechanic and I thinking about making a trailer to haul our GK-IV on, as the transport speed on those is just painfully slow.

   We have 96 square tees that we cut with triplexes during the winter. When things warm up and the grass growing increases we will mow them with our fwy mowers once or twice a week. Like mentioned above, it takes a few to get the hang of it, but definitely cuts down on the time. The even bigger benefit is that the heavier reels will cut right through developing grain or washboarding. South Florida 419.

   We have 81 square tee boxes. We mow each corner once. Back up, move over one reel and finish the corner. All turf is mowed without mowing different angles or changing directions.

   15 years ago I did this on a course in Asia, added 50% to mowing time and glad I do not have to do it again, never looked natural to me. Also the old triplex jac and toro were not good for this the new toro is better but sure it would still be slower than nice even curves like nature.
