   Gentlemen-
   
   Old topic but looking for some new feed back. For those with A/B crew set-up, what type of weekly work schedules are you running? Of course, looking to minimize overtime but still allow for time-off. I've had my own preconceived schedules but looking to see if there are any fresh ideas out there.

   Many years ago at a 36 hole complex I did my OJT at, there were two crews, I remember we would get one weekend off and one weekend on. And all crews came in and worked a half day on Wednesdays. If the pay week started on that Sunday and we were off, we worked 4 hours that Wed. and Saturday for our 40, then that Sunday and Wed, had Sat off, for the second week of 40.
   
   Another course I worked at we would work one weekend on and one weekend off. This would earn us 4 hours of OT each week, or a total of 8 OT hours during a pay period.
   
   Currently here we split or crew up, One guy works Sun - Thur the other guy works Tue-Sat, and I work Mon-Friday and come in on the weekend if there is an irrigation issue or if we have an outing scheduled.

   Bill,
   My latest schedule idea has been a hit with the crew. I attached the spreadsheet that I use. I give the crew two months schedule at a time to respect their time as well. I have a crew of 15, I divide them into 3 groups(A,B,C crews) Every other 3 weeks they get a 3 day weekend without missing hours. For example: A & B crew would work M-F to get 40 hours. C crew is off on monday and works the upcoming weekend so they would have their 40 hours. I try to keep my assistant and irrigation tech on this schedule as well, obviously there are exceptions in the middle of the summer. The other benefit is you only are short 1/3 of your crew on a weekday. We just do 4 hour mow and go on the weekend, unless temps. determine otherwise. It is kind of fun to see, that the guys that have the three day weekend are usually ready to be back at work on that tuesday and definintely appreciate their time off.

   I hope they are well rested. They have to work eleven straight. I like how the guys that get paid the least have to work the most. I notice you have sat and sun off. That's nice. I figured I'd chime in since you beat me out for the Eagle Mtn. gig, pinche buey. How are things? Remember arguing with the AGB 420 ? Professor Edwards if I remember correctly about genetics and sexual preference? That was beautiful. I say we go collect the hundred or whatever he was offering on principle alone. I prefer the city municipality seasonal route of paying no overtime and working them into the dirt especially right after aerating and then blowing a hydraulic hose one of the few times you send the sob out all year long. Thankfully just got the practice green. I am going to come play one of these trips to AZ. Good luck hope all is well.

   Piece of cake:
   
   Monday -Thursday 6:00-2:30 with a 30 minute lunch
   Friday 6:00-11:00
   Every other weekend
   
   With an every other weekend schedule, 3 hours each day, the two week pay period turns into 37 hours one week, 43 the next.
   
   This is how most courses in Florida do it. Of course, we don't have to wilt-watch like them northerners. But, in your off season when not wilt watching, this schedule works wonders while limiting overtime.
   
   We are also toying with a new schedule on one of our courses due to a 9:00 shotgun every Friday. It looks like this:
   
   Monday 6:00-3:30, 30 minute lunch
   Tuesday-Thursday 6:00-2:30, 30 minute lunch
   Friday 5:00-9:00
   
   Every other weekend.
   
   Still 37 hours one week, 43 the next.
   
   By having Friday afternoon's off, the guys don't mind having to work weekends. It also gives them a day to take care of errands, doctor's appointments, etc....without having to miss work the other days.

   Varied shifts. Some get Sat/Sun off. Some Mon/Tues. Some Tues/Wed and so on. When I hire I tell them they could be working any 5 consecutive days of the 7 days of the week. Weekends don't matter nowadays IMO. I schedule so that everyone gets 2 days per week off but more importantly, so that I have enough staff on board all 7 days of the week. This makes the schedule more linear. I don't like the spikes with the Tues-Sat and Sun-Thurs routine where you are staff heavy midweek and light Fri-Mon. If WalMart can schedule someone on a Wed-Sun shift, so can I.

   John,
   First your welcome to come play golf anytime. Most people (at least on my crew, I gave them choices that is what they wanted) don't mind working 11 if they can get 3 off. I remember in the valley almost every course did 12 on 2 off what a drag. During the season i take sundays off and maybe 1 saturday a month. In the winter I take many weekends off, I am not someone who likes to brag about working 87 days in a row. You are definitely right about the people who work the hardest get paid the least, but that is in almost every profession. It is a little different up here in the mountains, people can actually sit back and enjoy life. We consider ourselves the few that have escaped the rat race in the valley.
