In an attempt to class up some of the aesthetics on the golf course, I've got budgeted for some new accessories around the property. In past years, we constructed a bunch of items out of composite decking. It was okay, but like all composites, it faded, and the local supply stores couldn't get the same stuff when repairs were needed. I also really didn't like the weight and overall color of these items. Our course is in a very natural setting with wood used almost exclusively for anything structural. It looks nice, and fits the landscape.
I looked at the "high end" accessories out of Prestwick and landmark, and was a little taken back with what it'd cost to outfit the property with the "durable" woods being used. I'm a bit of a handyman and actually like to put the personal touch on items like bag stands and sand and seed bottle holders. I was wondering if anybody has done the same using 5/4 cedar decking material. I know it'll handle the elements, just wondering if anyone who has used this or tried it had any negative comments about the durability of handling it. I worry about Joe Mower not being careful when moving things out of the way. It seems that this is a material that is usually always available, easy to work with, and fits into the cedar and cottonwood dominated environment around us.
Thanks for any thoughts on this subject.
