I have ~10 Acres of 'native' areas throughout the golf course. These areas were originally maintained as rough and allowed to grow tall. I attempt to keep these areas clean of weeds, but struggle as the hodge podge of turf limits my herbicide options.

Due to the diversity throughout these areas, I am interested in proposing to convert these to a fine fescue stand. I am sure several of you have created or converted areas to fescue natural areas. I am hoping to learn from your experiences.

What is your recommended conversion process?

    Till or no till?

    Seeding rate?

    Maintenance program?

    Weed control?

    Thanks in advance

i am by no means an expert. Non selective herbicide (roundup). Make multiple applications to make sure you get everything. Solid tine and drop seed. It helps to have irrigation to get things established. Once mature, no irrigation. Takes two years to mature. First year, weed control consisted of mowing when not too hot or too dry. Second year plenty of options for pre and post. I always liked to give it a little fert now and then. Usually organic but not very much.
