Pros and cons on diamond zoysia as choice for a 1/2" collar height.

    Chris,

You might give your location and climate, also what your other grasses are.

I know we have Meyer zoysia in the upper transition zone with bent greens, bermuda fairways, fescue roughs. I am not happy with our zoysia collars, especially where there is a lot of traffic, between golfers with their pull carts and our triplex greens mowers. They don't seem to handle our high traffic areas. But we do have a shorter growing season of maybe mid April to end of September.

You sure Diamond can mow up to .5'? Fantastic turf mowed tight.

Good to here from you.. Hope all is well with you. I'm just looking for some options. Thought it might be an option. Thought it would be more consistent from a playability stand point. My Bermuda / bent are not that good in the spring. Could it handle 3/8". We had a tee at the Honors Course and thought we cut at 1/2".

1/2 inch will be a little tall for a collar of diamond. it will get puffy. we had them down at about .250. primo is great on it once summer gets going and it is growing. i would suggest keeping it off the diamond before then. makes for some difficult apps on greens until then though. be ready for the bent to grow into in half the year and the bermuda to grow into in the other half of the year.

TifGrand is going in with a lot of greens conversions from bent to bermuda in Georgia. Great grass.

Is Tifgrand proving not to encroach aggressively?

X2 on the Tif Grand. We converted greens this past summer and a single Tif-Grand collar. We mow it with a 18in walk mower twice a week and it only takes about 2 hours. Looks amazing, couple that with regular edging and it will really make things stand off. Have heard some negatives about zoysia and managing the moisture in that interface. Good luck!
