Club Damage to Greens Cancel The title field is required!

   Good morning
   
   In the recent past I have had members damaging greens with clubs, be it a putter or wedges. They take a divot out of the green or in one instance dig out the side of the hole and have dug down deep enough to the top of the cup. I will post a pic or two later.
   
   My questions is, has any member club tried to take any steps towards curbing, stopping or holding the member responsible for his actions? I understand it is a tough situation to deal with, but I was hoping to hear from any clubs that has taken further action after the damage to the greens.

   I have had the same thing happen in the past. I simply followed play asking each group if they had seen the damage and eventually get to the group who admits to it. Usually it a sheepish admission but an apology soon follows. In one case I had an admission but he was adamant that he took it out on the green because his putt would have sunk had the hole been changed properly...no apology. I said fine but without an apology I would have to take it to management. A two week suspension ensued and he was a model citizen in every way after that

   We've had a few situations of such nature. Mostly swipes at balls after missed putts etc... but going a little deep with the putter. In a few instances we have been able to narrow it down to the group but nobody has admitted to doing it, but if it is discovered the same as previously stated, some sort of suspension would follow.
   
   One story: during an event my golf pro called as there was a big chunk of the green taken out by the 9 hole pin. Only been 2 groups through the hole and he was asking me to change the cup. I told him that due it being an event I couldn't change the hole since groups had already played it. It was the major topic of discussion that day and I think that made the culprit feel pretty bad, I know I would have.

   When the deep holes was dug out, one of the group was on the Board of Directors (Now my President) and not a word spoken. Unfortunately I have been told several times to ignore it, but as often as it has happened, the pill gets harder to swallow.

   If possible fix it with him in site so he sees you repair, it works if you can hold off till he plays again?

   It's best to let it go and fix it if you are at a private club.It's the members responsibility to police them selves not yours. Once knew a Supt.that had a confrontation with a member over this. Took the guy about 15 years but became President and convinced the BOD to"go to another level".
