    Hey guys,

We converted the entire golf course to Celebration /Champion in 2012. We installed 2 rows of 419 in the collars as a barrier to slow down the celebration. As of now, the celebration has taken over 90-100% of the collars. We have edged the greens with a Atom edger (double blade) at 1" deep and hand pulled runners on a weekly basis from day one. We did not install a barrier. The celebration appears to be going under the edger blades in certain areas. The edges are pretty clean for the most part. My only option left is to dob the areas with Roundup/Fusilade and plug them out. I'm starting to get the feeling we are just putting a band aid on a gun shot wound.

We have built 2 nursery greens this summer and now looking into installing Tifgrand as a collar for testing. Anybody have any experience with Tifgrand collars or both?

    Thanks,

Timuquana is Jacksonville installed TifGrand approaches and collars with Celebration fairways a couple years back with this very concern in mind. Might be a good place to start.

I have a buddy that put Celebration right up against his MiniVerde greens and is facing the same issue as you. For now, they are dobbing the patches with Roundup/Fusilade.

I have that problem with my 419 growing into my TifEagle greens, even at .125"! Its amazing how it will grow at such a low height of cut. I will be looking into killing it next year and replanting it with the cores from our aerification process.

    David,

I did exactly this last summer with the same concerns in mind. Mini-Verde greens, TifGrand collars, Celebration fairways and rough.
The TifGrand is phenomenal at collar height (I've had it as low as .200), but does little in slowing the Celebration. I have areas where the Celebration has gone under and through the TifGrand into the greens. And I have the TifGrand encroaching into the greens as well.
The TifGrand is not as aggressive as the Celebration, and once plugged out, keeps a pretty clean edge. But, I'm having to edge both greens and collars to keep everything separated.
Had I to do over again, I would probably do the same. Now that we have a system fine tuned to combat these issues (plugging, edging) the pros out weigh the cons.
