Hello all, Looking to see what everyone has on their mowers and trap rakes to pick up hand rakes. I've seen a bunch out there and most are chincy do to the nature of the product..."As Seen on TV". Wondering if any on has stumbled apon a "commercial Grade" picker-upper. Thank you, Eric Buchholz Waushara Country Club Wautoma, WI

Even though the the previous poster has it right, the operator, I know what you are talking about. I've used a trash grabber device that you can get from a commercial supplier, Reinders I think has them. They are mounted to the mower or rake much like a ball mark tool is.

That being said. The time savings wasn't worth it. The time it will take to mount and spend the money to do this you could just make operator get up and move them each time. Get off rake, move all rakes, get back on, rake or mow. That's what they get paid to do.

Idea I would like to try at my course in Chippewa Falls is to put a rake in every golf cart and only 1 or 2 in each bunker. Rakes in bunkers would be the ones that stick in the ground and stand vertically next to bunker. Many newer cart designs are adding a spot for a rake to fit. Kinda neat.

    Kris,

We've toyed with the idea of rakes on the cart vs. on the course as well. Is anyone else doing this, and if so, what are the negatives. I'd think that the sand dropping off would be a gripe from the players, but possibly not, if they are smart enough to tap it first.

I can only imagine that one would need 1/4 of the rakes used otherwise, and we'd have less problems with consistency. In or out, orientation to the players approach to the handle, etc. Let's face it, how many of the patrons on public courses do a good job, or any job at all, of raking their tracks. I think we'd still keep green side traps with rakes, but the larger fairway bunkers, it'd be nice to have the cart house the rake. They drive the cart right up to the bunker anyway, and maybe we'd have a few less broken handles each week. (Although, I think this is more of a staffing problem, though they'd never admit to it. I get a lot of the "I found this handle, but I didn't break it" statements.)
