Bringing back Spring Dead Spot area's Cancel The title field is required!

   Like many courses in the South East this year, our short game facility has numerous SDS area due to an exceptional brutal winter. Many of the larger area on the property have been sodded, but it's not feasable for our short game area as the spot are small for the most part and spread through out the complex. I'v aerified and top dressed, and have been hitting the areas in question with triple 12 fert. Any suggestions to help speed the recover process or a more tried and true method?

   I'm no expert but you might try sprinkling in some seeded varieties after aerifying. Our newest NTEP trial here at UMD has 24 seeded varieties and only 5 vegetative types. Most look great. Riviera probably the best. Pretty tough winter up here also. Kenneth Ingram, UMD.

   You can hand aerate the SDS area and a little more around it. pull a core , remove the old sand then mix fresh dry sand with about 20 percent Milorganite mixed in. Pour the sand milorganite mix into each hole until it is full. This seems to work well by stimulating only the weak areas so they can catch up with the surrounding areas.
