I tried to check it out, but the link said it was unavailable, might just be because I'm at work and the city firewalls are sometimes a chore getting content.

If it was the same clip I saw the other day and actually twitted about, I will also respond here with my opinion.

I saw a clip where Lewis Black was out playing at Pinehurst and they were asking how he had played. (First and foremost he was playing in a charity outing for Cystic Fibrous which is does a lot for, I really appreciate him for that, and of course he's funny as heck).

In it he talked about the four shots it took him to play 440 yards, then he went on to describe the 5 shots he took from 40 feet. His first putt rolled off the green. While I admire the skill everyone has to produce these fast green speeds, what the heck are we doing to the game? No wonder people give up the game, how fun is it to 5 whack-it all over the place? I know some of us don't have the skill to sink putts on fast greens like that, and probably deserve our many 3 putts, but why beat up our golfers like that? I know your few vocal members want those fast speeds so they can have bragging rights, but I just don't get it?

We have many content golfers who play our course on greens mowed at 5/32" so it can be done, but instead of making the golf round fun and enjoyable, we resort to gimmicks like foot golf to fill our coffers. (So sorry to those that are making this work, and getting new people out at your facility, of course I'm too old of a fuddy duddy to think outside of the box). I'm stepping off my soap box now.

If that link had nothing to do with the Lewis Black interview........never mind (although I encourage you to find it).

    Mel,

Great point about unrealistic green speeds, particularly on severely sloped greens. I will never be convinced of the need for excessively fast greens during general play. There is no reason for it and it only serves to put the course at risk and makes for miserable customers. Tournament play is another story.
