    We're looking for a good wire tracer in the $400-$500 range. Mostly for tracing irrigation wire down about 18"-24" in very heavy clay soil. I've seen several different types on the market.

    Ridgid sr-20 is the best there is.....Its also $3000 for both the transmitter and wand but once you use one you'll never want to go back to the cheap ones.

    I have always used Pipe Horn. They are made here in Birmingham, AL. The 800 series will cost you less than $1k. It is dual frequency so you can clip it to a wire and trace only that wire or you can set transmitter up on a head or known location of wire and trace it from there.
