A former employee of mine as taken over a small pitch and putt with an acre of 328/419, common, goose and bare dirt greens, they plan to remove plugs from a "decent" putting green to patch up the other greens and then re-sprig the putting green. He's asked me for some input. They overseed for the snow birds (gulf coast Florida) , mow at .180-.250 and have zero money...now, having said that what turf would you recommend?

Cheapest TifDwarf I could find. Since the cheapest probably isn't real TifDwarf to begin with.

Sounds like it doesn't matter much as long as it is greens grade turf. Why not ask a local super if they would pull cores out of a nursery or call him when they aerify? Enough sprigs for one green cant cost much. Has he called local sod farms for ideas and costs?

Im gonna aerify in 2 weeks. He can come down and I'll load him up with plugs of my Champion / Yellowdog/ 419/Tifdwarf combo.

I recently heard of a low-end course (somewhere near Lake City) that is slowly converting their greens to TifGrand. I believe Bruce Allison at Pike Creek knows the details.

Tifdwarf, but get a soil test to be sure soil Nitrogen is not above 30 ppm. Excessive soil N will shut the Bermuda down and application of N is a common tool to solve any Bermuda problem - works many times, sometimes not so well.

I agree with using plugs from someones aerification process. This would be the easiest way to go but be careful of what type you want to get. each has their own issues and you will not want issues. If it was on my course I would use TifEagle because it is what I have on my greens and I know how to grow it. It just suits my courses needs is all. In your area Tif Dwarf may be better. What type of equipment does he have? this will make a big difference because he may not want anything to do with an ultra dwarf if he cannot verticut it. Celebration seems to be catching on but how low can you cut it (I have 419 surviving a .120")?
