I have a member who's building a couple par three holes for his kid. I did talk him out of actual real greens, but he's going ahead with the fairways and tees.
My question to the hive: is there any type of synthetic turf that responds like a real green in accepting a shot.

    Danke

    Kaptin Kurta,

Nice to see you are still around! I hope you are well.

I looked into synthetic options this spring for a few projects we were doing and it seems as though there are some pretty good options that the distributors say will hold and putt like the real deal. While we did not go through with the project I do have a some samples they sent me and they actually seem pretty nice. You can various "heights" to help with speed and will need to topdress. Sorry I don't have any names for your neck of the woods but if you google it (I know you probably already have) you will find the same folks. I think they were mostly out of the south and the transition zone areas? They all said the same thing, plays great as long as you build them properly. It wasn't cheap to have them do it, but I am sure you could do it in your sleep?

    Good luck!

I know, as always I am of little help:)

So you're sending me those samples to show the guy then? I'll return them to you with a nice Upstate Riesling for your trouble.

We purchased a tee line from Synthetic Turf International, and I also met with a rep from Southwest Greens. They're bigger companies that may be available in your area.

Wouldn't a common sense approach be to build 1 decent sized green but build multiple teeing areas? I'm sure the money saved by building the 1 green versus 2 or 3 and the upkeep on it would save enough to build say an entire nine teeing areas. the kids would have more fun and get better practice to boot. Just a thought.
