The Jonesboro Arkansas Diamond Kings win State and the World Series in 2011. They had 6 other tournament wins for the year. For those that have, or have had, kids in sports it was fun to watch. For those that know me check out the web site my wife put together for them. Not sure if it is updated after the world series win but it was a fun year of baseball. My boy even got CO-MVP for state play after pitching an 8 to 0 shut out no hitter and finished out the final inning of the championship game 3 up and 3 down.

So that's where you've been. Nice job Tracy, kudos to you for volunteering your time- it's not easy to do in summer. Congrats on a great season.

My U10 rugby team had a winless summer sevens season, but showed a lot of improvement over the course of the summer. Revenge coming this winter during the regular season!

Good for them, hopefully they keep it up and you don't have to pay for college?

Mel, I have just been enjoying this great year. At this time, just now turning 11, I am not for sure he will even want to play in high school. It looks like Zane Ryne wants to but you just don't know. It would be fun watching one of my kids play college ball but that is way down the road and we don't know what to expect. One kid has already gone to UofA (HOGS) this last year and on his grades mostly. I'll take some help from grades or sports. College is expensive.

    CONGRATULATIONS!

You are a few years away but the best advise I can give anyone who has a child getting recruited to play a sport in college is to enjoy the experience. My daughter is 17 and will be a senior in high school this year. The recruiting process started for us during her sophomore year , 2010, and we were told it was probably too late for her to get a scholarship. Most of the coaches that began talking to her told her they were already done recruiting for 2012. Technically coaches aren't even supposed to contact you until your junior year. She had offers at DI schools but we would have had to committ before school started last year and she was not ready to do that.

We have visited schools all over the country, met some great people, players, coaches, and parents, and have had a lot of fun. Unless you are an unbelievable pitcher, there are very few full rides in softball. Most of the offers that she has had are a combination of academic and athletic. We are narrowing down the schools and headed to Florida for a showcase event right after Labor Day and hope to get a deal worked out with a school there that has extended an offer.

Here is a link to a web site that I built for her a couple of years ago. Obtaining a scholarship is all about marketing. She has had coaches contact her that have never seen her play but tell her they have visited her website.

    Kerry,

I am just enjoying some fun at the 10AAA level. Now we are in the 11Major USSSA level and it will be a lot harder. My son is just a player on a decent team. A team that would be even better if we had a paid coach and not a coach and son issue. I'd rather my son get a scholarship using his brain but it would be a trip if he did move forward and get good enough for some form of baseball scholarship. At this age you don't even know it they will want to play in high school. There is a good chance but we will just have to see what comes down the road. Congratulations on your daughter. That would be something fun to be a part of. Good luck!
