It appears Joe Pa's career will not end as he has probably scripted it for decades. Current insider reports are that his reign will end rather abruptly. This would be a tragic end to the storied career of one of the games greatest legends.

I read the grand jury indictment last night. Still feeling depressed this morning.

Paterno can in no way be considered a legend now. With the information that was brought to him in 1998 and 2002 he had a duty, not to the university, but to potential future victims to call the police. He didn't and more were victimized and their lives ruined.

    What was he thinking?

I feel bad for the geezer but his lack of action allowed an incomprehensible amount of grief to proliferate.

Ditto what Ron said. The grand jury report is difficult to read at times. It reminds one of the institutional cover up of the Catholic church, more concerned with preserving the reputation of the institution than making the victims whole. Paterno's carefully crafted statement that acknowledges what happened but defers accountability to the PSU administration ignores his moral responsibility as the leader of the program to do something.

Bottom line, the inaction at PSU allowed the crimes to continue on for another decade. The 'hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil' approach adopted by PSU didn't work out to well for a lot of children. In addition to the damage done to the children, the taxpayers of Pennsylvania are going to be on the hook for a massive settlement/ judgement. Frankly, Paterno and all the others involved ought to be fired immediately. He should not even be allowed to resign, let alone resign after finishing the season.

Yes a very sad ending to until now a long illustrious career........very unfortunate for school and most tragic for the victims............
May no act of ours bring shame
To one heart that loves the name
May our lives but swell thy fame
Dear old State, dear old State

A disgusting story that is only appearing to get worse. Tyoka Jackson who played at Penn State(Class of 93) comes on a local sports staion and talks ball a few times a year here in St. Louis. He played pro ball for Tampa and then the Rams for 5 years. He is recalling stories from Sandusky's pregame speeches with young boys beside him. Tyoka remembers giving talks to boys from the Second Mile. He also recalled Sandusky bringing 3 boys to a Rams/Eagles game in Philly in 2001 and he met them on the sidelines. His interview is griping with some raw emotion and deep betrayal that he is now having a very difficult time trying to come to grips with.

    Here is the clip below.

I'm not sure anyone will really know the entire truth of "what did he know and when did he know it" but it doesn't make any difference. No one did enough to put an end to this when it was discovered almost 15 years ago. I have a difficult time believing that Paterno wasn't aware that something was going on when he fired Sandusky.

I am not sure how most people would act but if I witnessed an adult, any adult, involved in an activity like that, more than likely they would be exiting the shower on a stretcher. I've coached age group athletics for the last 30 years, boys and girls of all ages. I've had heated "discussions" with opposing coaches, and worse yet parents, because of the way they either talked or treated a kid. I stopped a game once and contacted tournament officials because a home plate umpire grabbed my 12 year old catcher and cursed at her. He was escorted off the field and I asked the parents if they wanted to call the police. It is incomprehensible to me that anyone could witness an act like that in the shower and not react immediately.
