The Final Four returns to Nawlins this weekend..........some great match ups and this coming from a hoops non junkie. The Louisville vs Kentucky is worth the price of admission to it whole thing...........only way it could be more intense if it were UNC vs Duke. Clay's team OSU vs KU should be a another great game as well.

The first time the Final Four came to NO it was North Carolina vs Georgetown...........perhaps the greatest assembly of basketball talent EVER at the Final Four............Sam Perkins, James Worthy, patrick Ewing, Sleepy Floyd and some lowly freshman named Michael Jordan........who hit the winning jump shot.

Syracuse and Indiana faced off in 1987, the first Final Four with the 3 point shot..........Steve Alford lit up the Dome 7 three's but Keith Smart of Baton Rouge's McKinley High knocked down the game winner. The game included Sherman Douglas, Derrrick Coleman and Rony Seikaly..........a few more NBA ers

In 1993 the Fab Five came to the Big Easy and lost to UNC and Erick Montross and George Lynch.....the infamous time out Chris Webber called and he had none to call..............oops

And in 2003 Syracuse come backs with a current NBA star name Carmello Anthony...........he starred but a no name Hakim Warrick blocked a potential game winning 3 pointer with less than a second to play........KU went down in flames

These 4 teams have a total of UK (15) KU (14) OSU (11) Louisville (9) .......49 trips to the finals....let the games begin.

Dan I have not heard what configuration the NCAA plans to use for this Final Four. I don;t believe it will be as large as it was in 1987 the only time I attended the big dance in the Dome. If guessing I would say with floor seating 40,000........the Dome holds just under 76,000 for football give or take a few.If you got the money you can buy a ticket..........to anything.

Thanks for the history lesson Dave.

I'm not a basketball fan, at all. My allegiance is with the Buckeyes but it's a good bet that I will be knitting a sweater instead of watching the game.

I enjoy college but detest the NBA. I have always wondered how the UCLA teams of the glory years would have done against the players of today. It is a completely different game. I know Lynn Shackleford would have had a ton of 3 pointer with his corner shot. It just seems like the game is so much faster now and I am guessing consistently more seriously strong guys in all positions. Old John Wooden may have been the best coach ever but we will never know the answer.

Clay..........old guys that can still remember stuff can relay it you young guys...........Mel........if he came up for a cup of coffee he can claim he played in the NBA which I cannot.......Sandy if the 3 point shot would have been around when the "Pistol" played the 44 + point per game average would have actually been much closer to 60/game..............he drove the lane very little.......dribbled around the top of the key making his defender look foolish and would pop in a 25 footer

Pistol Pete was always fun to watch. Pretty interesting games over the weekend. The final should be a great one tonight. Kentucky would be hard to pick against but Kansas is a mentally and physically tough team. Team discipline will probably decide the game tonight.

You would think that after winning 8 national titles the folks of Kentucky would know how to act in celebrating their latest one. Even after the semi final win they had riots and last night no exception and I heard there was one person shot as well. Maybe after # 9 they will figure it out. Both teams played well and Davis is a player on both sides of the ball......offense and defense.
