I think all buckeye fans officially switched to basketball season last night. What a great dismantling of the Blue devils last night. It would have been bad to have Duke start 3-0 in the big ten. Now I am just ready for Big Ten play and march madness. I think the GIS could have done us all a favor and scheduled the conference during march madness.

I don't find myself rooting for Ohio State very often but I'm all for anyone beating up on Duke. I'm a hoops junkie, high school and college. I'm within 45 miles of 2 DI schools, Bradley, and U of I, and have Illinois State and Illinois Wesleyan in town. Wesleyan typically has one of the top DIII programs in the country, that's where Jack Sikma went to school, and they have produced a few other pro players over the years. I've gone to watch them play for the national championship 3 times since I've lived here.

Love this time of the year...

I wonder how many people know who Jack Sikma is? I watched him play for the Sonics for many years and met him a few times as my boss was his neighbor. He is a perfect example of a guy who didn't have loads of god-given talent but worked his butt off to become good. Always admired him. Truely a class guy!

I used to think Sikma could play straight up with Moses Malone and not lose a whole lot to him. Always a solid player.

You know you are a retro guy when you can make references to Jack Sikma. I grew up close to him and dated his cousin in high school so I followed his career. I'm not an NBA fan, at least not anymore, but I was back in those days. I played in a pick up game with Sikma at Illinois Wesleyan a few years ago. They were getting ready to head to the DIII final four and he came to practice and gave a little pep talk.

Ohio State basketball coach Thad Matta is from my home town (Hoopeston Easy Lynn Cornjerkers) and was my next door neighbor for many years. Greg Matta is Thad's older brother and they both were all state basketball players. Greg played for UAB then Southern Illinois and Thad went to SIU then Butler. Both Matta boyz were amazing players and lots of great memories growing up with them. Matter of fact, I took college room mates now superintendents also, to watch Thad as a senior, play rival team and they were amazed at the chunky white kid. Thad was amazing his senior year as a cornjerker.

Jack Sikma lived up the road in a small town called St. Anne Illinois.

I hope Thad and Ohio State wins a national championship soon.

Jack Sikma was a assistant for Houston Rockets last year, not sure if Kevin McKale kept him or not for this year.
