I was very fortunate last night to attend a Bill Russell tribute dinner in Oakland. If you're a sports fan this was quite a night. Among those in the group of about 300 from the world of sports in the bay area were Bill Russell, Joe Morgan, Jim Brown, Raymond Chester, Hue Jackson, Al Attles, Clem Haskins, Dr. Harry Edwards, Willie Brown and Jennifer Azzi. Quite a group brought together in hopes of creating a partnership to stop the violence in Oakland and among their goals to increase the graduation rates from Oakland schools by 30%.
