    Greetings;

    What a Super Bowl Game. The final five minutes were really great. What Seattle needed was a running back that could run from one yard out into the end zone. And, accomplish this in two plays.

    I think they would look for one in the very near future. Maybe they could find a player named LYNCH !!!!

    Oh well, that is the coaches call not mine.

    Probably the worst play call in Super Bowl history right there. Unbelievable

    On that play Marshawn was a decoy. He only stayed in on that play so he wouldn't get fined.

    Worst play call ever? Had the pass been completed for a TD, everyone would have been saying best play call ever. I can hear it. Collinsworth would have been saying "100,000,000 watching knew Lynch would run it. They saw the defense and called an audible". Jaworski would have a dozen video breakdowns from every camera angle available talking about how Belechump was out coached.

    Agreed....worst play call, maybe ever. Pound beastmode and with 20 sec. and 1 timeout left then maybe try a play like that.....and throw it to your biggest receiver, Matthews....maybe. Merry Christmas Patriots.

    In that formation, they could have done a read option, with the Patriots knowing Lynch would get the ball, Wilson could have run it in himself. Worse case scenario, they lose a couple of yards and have more room to run the pass play. To bad they had to waste a timeout after the Kerse catch.

    Shoulda-coulda-woulda. The idea of "it would have been the best call ever had the pass been completed" doesn't belong in this discussion, IMO. The pass wasn't completed and Carroll is deserving of having made the "worst call ever" for not running the ball under the circumstances; 1 yard to go, time on the clock, multiple downs remaining... Lynch isn't called Beast Mode for nothing.

    I'm ok with the call. Seattle isn't a one trick pony, they have plenty of talented players. They were probably thinking ok, we've got 3 plays left and one time out to do this, second down we run the inside slant off the pick, if it works we win, incomplete then the clock stops and we still have two plays and a time out. Lost in the discussion is just how amazing the play was by the defender.

    Now there's conspiracy stories out there they wanted to make Wilson the one in the spotlight and not Lynch, so they threw it. Didn't want lynch being MVP

    Heard a stat on the radio this morning. From Game 1 this season through the Super Bowl yesterday 109 passes were thrown from the 1-yard line. Only one was intercepted.

    Another interesting stat from the washington post: beastmode not that effective from the 1. For the season he was 1 of 5 in scoring td's from the 1. For his career, he's 15/36 a td rate that ranked him about 30th among his contemporary rb's. This info, along with Pete's stat, proves once again that the professionals know more than the armchair qb's. It was a reasonable and rational play call, but the DB just made a heck of a play. He should be getting more credit than he is.

    PS Lynch was qouted about the play call and him not getting the ball and to his credit he said something along the lines of no he wasn't surprised by the call and football is a team sport.

    The best illustration I have heard on this topic is from a friend of mine:

    Pete Carroll at blackjack table:
    Dealer: "OK, sir, you have 20 showing. What do you want to do?"
    Pete Carroll: "Hit me!"

    And I heard it was last nights pass. Also heard the state that Lynch wasn't automatic from the 1 and Wilson was 1 for 2 from the one. Sorry Gus, I responded without reading your post.

    Speaking of black jack I hit on 19 once and drew a 2 I had an Ace and 8 and didn't do the math.

    I like Seattle as I am from that area; however they lost in a call that was not wise. That is the breaks. The big issue; is the deflate-gate. I think Seattle was up against the wrong team, now they may well have lost however this loss will always be tainted with the fact at a team cheated to get to the SB. 2 lbs does not sound like much then again that is about 8% and if you were in a car doing 65 in a 60 zone and got pulled over and said well I was only going 8% over and that is fair? You might be paying a $150+ fine and wondering why!

    Captain,

    Great Game! Great defensive play, rookie made up for giving up the big play just before!

    Ron, I am sorry I missed you over Christmas, schedule was pretty busy. Good to see Pappy though. I hope he got to see the game. I understand you were able to visit him around the Holidays too. I know he enjoyed seeing you!

    Exactly, we had the table to ourselves after that, just glad it was only $2.50 a hand. This being in NJ, I guess I was lucky I wasn't swimming with the fishes.

    Keith, the latest report I heard was only one of the twelve balls was under inflated and barely at that. In the Indy game, correction to the ball was made at half time. Final score was what, 45 to 7 or something like that? I think they could have played with a basketball or baseball and still would have beaten the Colts. The cheating accusation may turn out to be incompetency on the NFL's part rather than the Patriots cheating. I am not a Patriots fan and they may at some point in the season deflated a ball but it sounds like the NFL may end up with egg on it's face on this particular issue for that game. Maybe they should just change the rule to allow the QB to choose the PSI that suits them, that way everyone is equal in that it benefits everyone and the games may be more entertaining.

    Sandy, I hope that is true, baseball was hurt so bad by greed and to see one more sport follow that road would be bad for America and our way of life.

    Keith, I do as well. Maybe they will take a new look at the procedures of storing balls and possibly determine if the ball psi should even be an issue. I guess the investigation will tell us. I just wonder if the error turns out to be the fault of the NFL if they will admit to sloppy procedures or try to find a skapegoat. We may never learn the entire truth. but I bet they at least make some changes.

    As for the football issue, I don't know why the league just doesn't prepare the balls the same as in baseball. They should all be the same, if it was only one ball that was the issue, why did the "Hoodie" go into so much detail as to why and how footballs loose pressure? Probably most of the issue can be traced to New England's past cheating issues and maybe even from the Baltimore game where the refs didn't do a good job of identifying eligible receivers, and we just love to hate them, like we used to hate the Yankees when they were good?

    I know in college it is like that as well, due to some have contracts with NIke and other companies, maybe FSU should have deflated the ball a little in the Rose bowl, and not as much fumbling would have occurred?

    Mel;

    Someone started a good rumor about the Patriots and deflating the football. As it turns out only one football was lower on pressure but the football fans in these United States won't believe that. WHY? because they hate the Patriots. When the player from the Colts intercepted Brady's pass he brought the football over to his bench to save it because he intercepted the Great One. He never MENTIONED a deflated football. The coach from the Ravens denies he ever said anything about the Patriots to the coach of the Colts.

    Now, you call the patriots cheaters because you probably don't like them. They were filming the Jets as were many other people in front of about 80,000 fans. No one was trying to hide it.

    When a baseball player is on second base he closes his eyes while the catcher gives the signals to the pitcher. All the other signals the coaches give are filmed and studied for hours trying to figure out what means what. The Yankees had some really great teams and MANAGERS and they played hard and were very good at what they did.

    In golf, I forget the rule but no one said Tiger cheated when about 25 people moved a boulder so he could have a shot! Or,Tom Kite playing in the seniors at The Olympic Club after he hooked his tee ball into the woods on the first hole and a branch was moved and he had a clear shot to the green.

    President Nixon was not the only guy to do what he did. Was that Watergate? It was like breaking into the Ford plant trying to steal the Edsel plans.

    Now, you want to talk about a CHEATER and a LIAR it is President Obama. So, go after him and leave the Patriots alone.

    Ask yourself this - Kansas City whipped the Patriots and the Seahawks - How come they were not in the Super Bowl?

    Great teams seem to find a way to win. Luck also goes their way. Bad call in my opinion with the time out remaining. Fake to Lynch and Bootleg, Wilson probably could have walked in from the one yard line. Oh mention luck, the one time "Tuck you Al Davis" call with seconds left in the Snowy Championship Game. I hate the Pats but concede Brady is probably the best QB ever.
