I just read in the paper that a kid I coached in baseball was killed in the line of duty Tuesday. He was police officer in a small town In Mississippi. He was the lead officer serving an arrest warrant on an accused child molester. Michael was the first one through the door and he took a bullet in the head. He was a great kid that came very close to pitching in the majors. Injuries prevented him from making it all the way. I clearly remember Michael turning a triple play as a nine year old in Little League. Most kids at 9 wouldn't have know what a triple play was and yet Michael turned it like a much older experienced ball player. He was such a good hitter, he probably should have pursued 2nd base as a position player and not go through the risk of arm problems. It is a shame that a great kid of 37 has to die at the hands of one of society's worst. He leaves behind an 11 year old daughter, a wife and two grieving parents. Michael, rest in Peace!
