Interesting picks, although without Harbaugh, I don't see Stanford finishing that high. Also don't see Okie State and A&M finishing that high. Guess that is why I will wait for your comments.

Thats ok David, we do better when we are not rated. And does it really matter where you are rated before you even play a game?

You are correct Rick and Michael those are my picks and differ from the experts. I kind of feel that way about Stanford also but still gave them the benefit of the doubt. Lost the head man and some key coaches. The new guy is unproven and time will tell. I do like OSU and A&M.......the Cowboys will outscore most of those they play and the Aggies can do it on both sides of the ball though they lost two key guys off of the defense. I'm hoping they are playing with a chip on their shoulders this season.

Good luck battling the Texas, I mean Big 9 refs, if last year was any indication.

DMac, Once again you have neglected to put the Tennessee Vols in your top 15. This oversight casts doubt on the credibility of your entire list of selections.... Oh wait, nevermind, we're going to stink again this year.

Gus had I done 16 picks the Vols were in....................maybe later in the year. I do have your other team at the bottom of the Top 25 though.......but didn't want to embarass Layne by going that deep.

Get Ohio State on that list and I'll see what I can do to get you a free tattoo. Hmmm? Hmmm?

Some big games right off the bat should tell us a lot. Hoping your Tiger's like Duck meat!

Sean should be a very tough game though at a neutral site (LSU's second largest alumni base is in Dallas). Oregon had their distractions early, we had ours late. No one knows until game time if all the hoopla of barroom fights and missed curfews, player suspensions will have an affect on those playing. We have lost 3 starters since last Friday, the starting QB arrested and suspended, starting WR NCAA suspension, starting left guard injury. The vegas line opened at Oregon -3 and as off today LSU fans have bet it down to Oregon - 1/2. But I am ready for some football !

#1 ALABAMA.......both last year and this year my preseason favorite was Oklahoma until the injury bug hit them. The Tide though beginning with a new QB should not miss a beat offensively. Lots of talented wideouts for AJ McCarron to toss to and Trent Richardson before its over may be better than Ingram. He is faster for sure. The defensive side of the ball Alabama will again be very strong.........one of the two best defensive backfields in the SEC and again as always great linebackers. For some reason there is never a fall off in the kicking game of the Tide either............just good solid punters and placekickers. They travel to Happy Valley a tough place to play and also have road games at Florida, State and Auburn. The Tigers and Razorbacks have to go to Tuscaloosa. If they handle PSU they should be 3-0 when Arkansas comes to town. They have an open date prior to LSU which will be huge for them. Two stats to remember.........67% to the good on 4th down coversions last season...........45% on 3rd downs..........both excellent numbers............if still undefeated after Nov 5 they run the table.

#2 OKLAHOMA..........my pick last year and my early pick this season until Travis Lewis went down with an injury. if the Sooners have a weakness its run defense and he is "DA MAN" for stopping the run. Landry Jones will again be one of the best QB's in the country with lots of talented receivers to catch his passes. Clay and Whaley will pack the pigskin for the running attack............enough talent there for sure. The early season schedule is tough..........Tulsa is no gimme...........Florida State in the sunshine state will be a real test........leg up to the winner.........then back to face Missouri anoather ranked team and a conference game........no championship game this year in the Big/Little 10/12........every loss hurts........Texas looms in two weeks in Dallas and a late season game with A&M at home..............like Alabama, if undefeated after Nov 5 katy bar the door for the Sooners

Let's see if LSU takes care of the Ducks, then FSU takes care of Oklahoma, then Alabama falls to someone, the Noles will be # 1.

Yea yea yea Mel..........wish in one hand and you know what in the other and see which one fills up the fastest. Did you have an epiphany last night?

Will kill two birds with one rock today..........#3 OREGON vs #5 LSU.....+3 @ Dallas
The Ducks have the fastest and highest flying offense in the country. Better be in shape to keep up with the boys from Eugene. Can't wait to see their latest outlandish attire for the season opener...........have seen the shoes....obnoxious is not bad enough to describe them. They had their share of off season problems as did the Tigers.........they had their's a while back and LSu is still suffering from the lastest hangover. Ex LSU committment Darron Thomas stirs the drink for the Ducks.......some losses up front since the meltdown against another Tiger from the SEC back in January. The lead Heisman candidate in LaMichael James is back to run the ball............one of the 3 best backs in the nation. major loss in the suspension of Cliff Harris......a great DB and an even better kick and punt returner. He is a difference maker..............LSU has no one close this year but neither do the Ducks for this game. LSU is back from an 11-2 season without a QB..........after hearing how much he matured in the off season, he breaks curfew and is arrested for a bar fight. Jarrett Lee is the new starter.........has 9 starts in his 5 seasons with the Tigers......completely different QB......drop back pocket passer and not much threat to run as was Jefferson..........running backs by committee but a slew of them......no shortage of talent at RB.....best O line in the past few years but lost a starter just this week due to an injury........not huge but very fast defense with bevy of fast and big hitting DB's............Loston is a monster at S if he hits you..........quick LB's that run sideline to sideline........fastest group maybe ever. Our sleeper on the D line is Barkevious Mingo.......yea thats his real name................a speed rusher at 6'5 240. Missing a starter at WR with a suspension there as well. But #2 is a playmaker, Rueben Randle and lots of young talent behind him.............two new kickers so definitely BIG question marks. Miles is 11-1 in openers and bow games where he has time to prepare...........Boise State, Ohio State, Auburn all knocked off the Ducks with weeks to prepare for their fast paced game plan...............should be a great game....bigger for Oregon than LSU...........they lose it hurts them more.....we lose and win the SEC we are in New Orleans for the big dance without beating the Ducks........LSU has the the best record in the SEC over the last 10 years and second to UF over the last 5 yrs..........3 SEC titles , 2 crystal footballs.........should be a great game......as always turnovers are a huge key.............we have to run the ball well to keep the Oregon O on the sidelines......we hold the Ducks into the mid to low 20's we can win.............a scoring fest.........they win........take the 3 points

Well I think game one went as predicted..........our two lines controlled both lines of scrimmage. Stopped the running game cold and made Thomas beat us passing........and we won the turnovers as I said was needed. Bigger, stronger and just as fast............LSU's 34th straight non conference win in a row.....nations longest...21-4 all time aganist the Pac 10/12............18 straight wins in September

Of course little Boise State continues to be considered not quite with the big boys but they just keep on winning! Sorry Georgia. The mighty San Diego State Aztecs stomped the powerful Cal Poly Mustangs 48 to 21 and are looking to do the same to Army next week. David, flashback to the Marshall Faulk days. We have a pretty hot sophomore running back named Ronnie Hillman. He had a 200 + yard rushing game. The kid looks good! Maybe when my Aztecs beat Army, Washington State, Michigan and maybe Boise State, you will find room in the top 20 for us.

Can somebody (Gregg) please tell me what's going on with Maryland's uniforms? The red and white half I can't figure out. The yellow and black is showing respect for the ABBA -ZABA candy bar. That much I know.

I saw all kinds of weird uniforms over the weekend and I'm sure there's tons more to come. What has come of our institutions of higher learn'n?

Sandy I will always have room for the Azrtecs..........a special place in my heart. Pete and Clay there is a lot to be said for tradition over fashion...............when Michigan, OSU, LSU, Texas, Ala, OU run on the field you know who they are..........lots of others as well that believe traditon means something.
