I have a pretty new John Deere Triplex. I use grooved or solid rollers depending on time of year, weather, etc. I am getting a ridiculous amount of grass sticking to the front AND rear rollers. There is also a large build up of grass on the back end of the bedknife. This seems to be a new issue for me. obviously this will change my effective height of cut and/or appearance of the cut. What are you guys using the prevent this?[attachment=0">IMG_0095.JPG[/attachment">

If you have the proper bedknife angle of attack the clippings behind the bed bar should be a non-issue. Having the rear roller power brushes solves the rear roller build up problem. I've never seen a factory scraper attachment for the front roller. I have used small aircraft cable for scrapers on solid rollers, but we use grooved front rollers year round and really don't see that issue on bermuda greens.

I am with Keith...before you troubleshoot too much, make sure your angles of your bed knife is properly ground to ensure the clippings eject properly. I run 2500E's and have some buildup issues if you are really hogging grass or have just top dressed, but not on a regular mow. Good luck.

Just starting up a new season? Might be temperary I find the grass " juice" (mechanics word )sticker when it first gets cut. After a few weeks it settles down I find . We have the roller brushes . Don't care for the bucket system . Like everything else about machine . Might have to knock down the dew first .

We've been cutting for awhile now. Very short staffed so dew removal is not an option. I might try rear roller brushes. My other concern is the build up of grass on the rear of the bed knife. I've never seen that before. Could it be the angle the bedknife is mounted? The thickness of the bedknife?

Something else to check...make sure that your front roller is set in the proper number for your HOC Range...this will affect your aggression. Maybe it has monkeyed with your angles enough to cause a problem? Want to be slightly aggressive and make sure your angles aren't inverted so you are whiffing the cut.

Front rollers should be on 2 unless your cutting reely low (less than .110 )If it's on 3 the bedknife would be tipped back for sure .

That's not normal. Sounds like whatever is causing that is the clue to the buildup behind the knife also. Maybe your clippings are not making it into the bucket. Your dealer should adjust the bucket for you and make sure the grass shield extension is installed and the rubber extension for the bucket is also installed. I kinda doubt that's it but it's a start.

Something else I would check is the gap between the shield and reel.
The gap should be 1MM(0.04in) this will improve the performance
of the grass catcher, might help the issue. Good luck.

Roland got me thinking about our 2500's and the horrible basket system they have. On our older baskets, they often times bow out right along the front edge that sits closest to the reel. Enough so that there's about a half inch gap where I could see the potential for clippings easily making it through. The clippings also have a bad habit of clogging up right at the discharge point when the basket is only about a third full. We've been running several 2500's for over 10 years and I also think it's got to be something about the clippings not making it into the basket.

We use roller brushes on our Newer Toro triplex but the older one we use round bungie cord or screen door springs. our fairway machines use screen door springs. We have built our own roller scrapers for our smooth front rollers which works great. The only issue with this is that the clippings or sand falls off the reels in clumps when there is a lot of dew on the ground.

I'm with Rocky, lousy clipping collection system on the 2500's and your back roller I'm sure is picking up what doesn't get into bucket. Have an old toro with cleanup reels and roller build up is rarely an issue. Let us know if u figure it out!

Just to give you guys an update. We adjusted the space between the reel and the rear of the shield. AS far as the shield extension, we removed it. no shield at all. We also adjusted the basket alignment. Problem solved! thanks guys for your help!

    Can you clarify?

You had a shield extension and you removed it?

How did you adjust basket alignment?

We also decreased the amount of clearance between the reel and the cutting unit shield.

there was a shield bolted to the top of the reel. We removed it.
How did you adjust basket alignment?

We raised the height of the yoke or lift arm which in turn raised the height of the basket. The adjustment is located at the base of each lift arm
