I've got 4 Toro MDX vehicles that are pushing 9 years old. About 4 years ago, the hubs for the drive wheels on the back began stripping out and the splines have been sheered of requiring replacing the hubs at about $450 each! We are about to replace our 11th hub and was wondering if anybody else has seen this problem with these hubs? I've looked at age, operator abuse(jamming it into gear while coasting), , etc. I know they are getting older and have been workhorses for our operation but the frequency and hub price is making me think about changing brands when replacing in a year or two.

Make it a part of a yearly service to torque them to the proper ft lbs. our old ones which are long gone were 2000 models would do it, after torquing them every year no more problem. With our newer models we've never gone through any as they're checked every year during the winter time. If you're hauling very heavy loads with them it may be worth a twice yearly check on the torquing of them.

We have had that problem on older EZ Go, and now 2 year old Cushman haulers.  Really cranking down the nut helps but doesn't eliminate the problem.
