Getting ready to purchased new greens units and was wandering if any of you could provide any positive or negative feedback on the Toro 3150q and the Jacobsen 322 eclipse units.

    Thanks,
    Doug Terrell, Supt.

We demo the eclips at my past course . Pretty nice machine . We went with 3150 q at the time . Also very good . Current at my new course we're running diesel electric JD 2500 . The staff really liked them. Personally I'd go with the dealer that had your back if there is a warranty issue . We're pretty fortunate that all 3 are pretty good here . Most modern equipment are user and service friendly .

We currently have 3 5410's, 2 3320's, 5 Flex 21;s all have DPA cutting units on them. I have had no issues
with these units. The things are very dependable easy to work on very easy to take off the traction units. The traction units are very dependable too no trouble with them.We tried all three brands and liked Toro's cut the
best.I would try them all and get what you think is the best cut in your area with the best service for any issues
that may come up. Hope this helps. Ron Equ. Manager.

Service from the distributor is the biggest thing to think about. Depending on your setting, think about the availability of a field tech, turnaround if it has to go back to distributor, how knowledgeable are the parts staff when you call (salesman are just that, most of the time). If that is tie ball game, flip a coin on price like we did last go round.

We demoed the tri-flex vs 2500 E jd's two seasons ago, and it was overwhelming the staff support for the 2500 E. Both were hybrids, but toro gas vs jd diesel. Based on staff request and other factors, JD got the nod, but mostly because of the factors from above.

    I have both Machines
The 3150Q is much cheaper to maintain..... New Electrical technology is very expensive when it has to be replaced
The Eclipse is much more comfortable to ride

We have the Toro's and with the DPA reels there is not a lot of maintenance, not a lot of greasing. We went maybe 4 years about 1000 hours before we broke apart our DPA reels and at that time the grease looked new from the factory.

Ditto the 3150q and the reduced maintenance. Your mechanic will thank you.

It was to the point I almost apologized on the breakdown of the DPA reels, I'm from the old school (and Lake City) that preventive maintenance is king, and here we hadn't broke these reels down for way past any other place I've been. In most cases we would break down reels every winter, (well one place we had to, since the old grinder would just grind the reel stock, wish I could find that picture) and we would replace bearings and seals, because we didn't want something going down during the season. A few years down the road at another course, we would still breakdown reels, but our mechanic would check bearings and replace just what he thought needed it.

I'm drawn toward the 322. Whether hybrid or electric no hydraulics on your green. I also was involved in the testing before release of the 322s.

I have zero experience with the 3150Q, only GM 3100s with 3000hours, but we do have an Eclipse 322 and it was an absolute game changer for us. The ability to set the FOC has improved our greens tremendously. We are mowing at a winter height of .170 and yet they roll like we were at .125(Warmer than average winter so the bentgrass greens are growing). Aside from worrying about scalping collars I could put anybody on the 322 also, the reel is clip the same whether they are being tenuous driving across the green or whether they have the peddle to the floor. I do worry about repair costs for the electrical components because we bought the unit outright, but right now the performance outweighs those fears.

I always wondered about the clip speed/ground speed issue. Is it a real thing? with direct drive, such as the Toro would the reel speed not increase linearly with the drive speed? Just asking
