What is the age of your mechanic? Trying to see what the average is.

I am with Ron, but I am pretty sure he is around 60. Although, what difference does it make? DMC is 80 and he runs a marathon every morning with full battle rattle!

There are 7 of us here and our ages run from mid twenties to mid fifties and our level of experience goes from a few years to over 30. IGCEMA has done a few surveys over the years and the highest percentage in class A is 51-55 years and class B is 46-50 years.

Not sure what the age thing means other than possible experience as a golf course equipment tech. Mine is in his early 40's doing it sincejust after high school high school and with me for 19 of those years.

Not 80 yet but hope to be one day and I only run them every other day Scott. Got to have some recovery time.

4 of them - anywhere from around 40 up to 60. But I don't ask, and they don't tell. As long as they can do the job.... That being said, I've had great mechanics that were early 20's that could run circles around the older guys, and vice versa.

    Whats a mechanic?

Unfortunately don't have a dedicated mechanic at this course but we do all of our own repairs and maintenance so I guess the ages would be 42 for the super and 25 for me.

I received a call recently from a fellow superintendent asking about a former mechanic. I did not feel right about saying his age although I am not sure. I know he is a good mechanic, he is up there in age and is in better shape than I am.

I'm still listed as a Supt, but I've gave up working April to the end of November without a day off to be the Equipment manager here at Lakewood in New Orleans. Less pay? yes a little, less hours? yes a bunch, headaches, still a few but nothing like I've had in the past. Good move? abso freaken lutley. Oh and to the point of this, been in the business since 1980 and I'm 50.

I had an employee from Trinidad who was 45 when he came to work for us. At 65 he was eligible for a pension (private company). He asked to retire. After checking his background closely it turned out that he was 65 when he went to work for us and was 85 now. He looked good for 65. He had also competed in the 1936 Olympics in Berlin.

1 mechanic, 45 holes, 28 years old. Does a great job with way to much equipment for only one guy.
