we currently have club car 48V electric carts (10). we just completed an additional 9 holes with over 300 ft. of elevation change and are looking at changing over to gas. I do not have a mechanic so service and repairs are a factor as well. Thanks in advance.

What do you think would be the issue if you stuck with gas? What worries you?

I would personally think the electric would be better because it's less wear and tear on a clutch and belt trying to climb hills. I would also think the electric is less maintenance than the gas.

I do not think you can have a gas fleet without an equipment guy to maintain them. using regular day employees is a recipe for disaster in my opinion. While most would think all you need to do is add gas, you still need to keep the oil on the mark (and our cartguy overfilled our range cart and blew out seals).

Gas carts do seem to have more power but they are a lot more to repair also. but if you are getting them on a lease you should be able to contract their upkeep from the cart company. you would need a way to keep them topped off with fuel safely and without your fuel being able to be stolen.

This has been brought up at my club in the past and I stop them at using my fuel pumps for carts after our department hours. I cannot tell you how many times I have been called on the weekend because the cart people forget to fuel their range cart by 2:00pm Friday. they have to go the the station to get gas.

unless your really hilly (up and down) I would stick with electric carts but look into ones that may be better geared for the terrain.

Electric for sure . Good training for cleaning and filling batteries is key .whats not to like replace the occasional speed sensor and front end parts( on Club Cars.) We have a guy that runs any problem carts to my shop . Usually front end damage .Just grease the front ends and check brakes. Spot check to make sure there keeping them filled . Single point fill on batteries is a must the staff don't seem to mind filling them . Quick and easy .
