gas was leaking out of the overflow from the carburetor. Had the float replaced. The gas is now getting into
the oil. Please help with any suggestions you may have. Greens mower, Briggs and stratton Vanguard 16hp.
    Thanks, Mike

Do you know if the needle and seat was replaced along with the float? What was the condition of the inside of the carb float bowl?

fuel in the oil should have been the result of the first instance but the position of the valves may have been closed and prevented fuel entering the oil sump. Regardless, your float needle is not seating allowing fuel to continuously flow instead of shutting off. It has to go somewhere and gravity says to the oil sump. I suggest a thorough examination of the carburetor and a rebuild, simple job and relatively inexpensive.

We had this happen on a vangaurd engine and it turned out to be a spark plug was bad. Not sure if this is it but worth a try.

We also had this happen and it was the cause of a misfire in one of the cylinders. Gas was going in, wasnt getting ignited and was pooling up in the cylinder until it leaked down into the oil sump. Check your spark plugs, make sure you have spark and then continue from there. It is a common problem on these engines

Happen with us . Change the needle valve and it stopped . the cause might have been to much alcohol in the gas??
Fuel companies don,t always give you 10% mix in your fuels

I started seeing this late last fall with two of my GK's with Vanguards. Installed kits on both with no good results, so shut fuel off after use until end of year. I took both apart twice, but could find nothing wrong with what I did. Finally got fed up and bought a new carb($180.),which fixed the problem. The second is on order.
Personally, I think this new gas is not only damaging rubber and other components, but the carb bodies, too, like the inlet seat, which is non-repairable on the Vanguards.
One other thing. Without going into details how I discovered this; if left to the open air, gasoline with ethanol will evaporate at the rate of one ounce per 24 hours. Just thought it interesting.
