I have a member who has a Yamaha cart that when the gas pedal is released the engine continues to run at an idle. The pedal is all the way back. The thottle cable has been adjusted but no help.

Could the cable need to be replaced?

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

The butterfly valve in the carb may not be closing.

It's most likely a micro switch, could have some crud in it causing it to stick, or just going bad. Easy enough to check with a volt meter, but something has to let current through to the starter generator for it to just turn over and keep going. If it's actually firing, then yes your still getting fuel and could possibly be an open butter fly, just unhook at the carb while it's idling and see if it closes and shuts off.

    Regards,

Is the cart actually running or is the starter just turning the engine over?
