Just curious as to what everyone does to winterize their two cycle equipment for the winter. I have heard many conflicting reports. Some say run it dry while some say use a fuel stabilizer and others say do nothing at all. I use Amsoil Saber Professional synthetic two cycle oil and (knock on wood) haven't had any major problems in the spring. Our course is in Minnesota.
    Thank for the feedback.

We have mostly echo equipment and a always run it dry at the end of the season or for storing more than 3 months. I will also pump the primer bulb to try to get any gas left in the carb out. This is also a good time to check inside the empty tank, its surprising the crap that is in the bottom of the tank sometimes. We have 10% ethanol in our gas here which plays havoc on carbs. I believe in the echo manual it says to put the piston at TDC when storing the equipment for long periods. I don't use stabilizer. Why buy something when I can drain it for free.

I like to run the two stroke equipment dry, then add 1/4 tank of Stihl Motomix... let run for a couple minutes then it's good to go. We do occasionally use blowers during the Winter so they'll use Motomix as the fuel but weed wackers for instance get to sleep. Basically I can't justify using Motomix year round so that's my process.

We drain out gas and then fill with Recreational Gas, no alcohol in this. It is the same gas you used to purchase in the 60's and early 70's before they started to add ethanol and other garbage to it. I have used this in my push blower at home as well as chainsaws and wood splitter. My leaf blower will sit for 11 months and when I need it, it will take maybe 2 pulls with choke on; starts right up. Gas doesn't break down, even after a year.

I have never done anything for winter maintenance on any of the 2 cycle machines and have had very little problems. (We are mandated to run 10% ethanol.) As an example my snowmobiles run on 10% ethanol and out of habit clean the carbs once a year. This year I found the carbs clean on the Polaris and dirty on the skidoo, the skidoo had sea foam in the tank and it had varnished pretty bad.
