If everything looks ok, I would not be afraid to put together and try adjusting rod. Our 5210 had about 6,000 hour on it and there was very little play in the pedal. After adjusting the rod and linkage, tractor ran like new. It would climb hills with a load and not hesitate and pto worked just as it should. Before you put back together make for sure there is no sign of oil getting on the clutch and make for sure the disks don't have a glaze on them. I had a Deere 1070 that was slipping and thought was clutch and came to find out had small hydraulic leak that found its way into the housing and onto the clutch disk and they had to be replaced. I worked on another tractor for a friend and their clutch had been slipping so long there was a glossy glaze that developed on the clutch disk and pressure plates. I used a die grinder with abrasive pad and gently removed the glazed areas and put tractor back together, adjusted linkage and ran perfect. Unfortunately I have torn tractors apart and found the disks and pressure plates had to be replaced. If clutch needs replaced, I recommend finding an automotive clutch shop and get price from them for either rebuilding yours or of they can find you one elsewhere. I just replaced clutch in a ProGator last year and John Deere wanted $2,300 for complete clutch, I found one on Ebay with exact same stamping numbers for $400 and it works great.
Good Luck
